Weekly Blog 2-2 (45): Example of Exhaustion

Image
Hello 'Ilima To say that I am tired would be a massive understatement. So much stuff has just been happening and more things are going to be added to my plate. This busy week started with the GT coming to Leadership. The GT were three girls and I had known two of them beforehand as one of them was my friend’s sister and the other one was in my elementary’s school Lion King play. The third one, Sonora, happened to be the one in my period and she was pretty cool. The 7th graders in my period taught Sonora how to blog and helped her create her covers with minimal help which was a proud moment for me as it shows that we have been teaching them well. Moving on, the Complex Area Superintendent (CAS) came to ‘Ilima for a tour and the Student Body Government had to give him a presentation and tour. We had been preparing with a slideshow and evenly split up the slides so that we would be ready for when the CAS came. At 8 AM, we arrived in a conference room and Mr. Greenland showed us the s...

Weekly Blog 2-1 (44): Loooooooong Opening

Hello ‘Ilima  This was our first week back in the second quarter and the best way to describe it was exhausting. That whole week felt like multiple weeks all in one. To start off, we had a field trip to Campbell on Friday. The trip was for all of 8-3 to understand the academies, ask questions, and get to know the campus. It was a pretty good experience as it helped me narrow down my options and the tour was informative. To get into more detail, the day started with a presentation about the athletic programs. The different sports are broken up by seasons that come throughout the year. The sports that caught my eye were Air Riflery and Golf. They were both uncommon and required minimum athleticism, just needing patience and accuracy. The. The presentation moved onto the Academies and the ambassadors of the Academies gave us information about their Academy. After that, we were put into different groups with an ambassador leading us. Our leader was the STEAM Ambassador and she was very...

Retreat Blog

Hello 'Ilima From October 9th to October 11th, Leadership went on a 3 day retreat and it was a truly life-changing experience. To begin this story is a tough one because of all of the many different things that happened. I'll begin with the beginning. When we got there and unpacked, it was like a wave of nostalgia. One year later, we were in the same house with the same floors and walls which was very trippy for me. Then, across all of the days, we broke up into groups and had sessions which really allowed us to work as a team. We came up with lots of ideas and it was a really productive time. Despite this work, the feeling of being in this house didn't hit at first. I felt normal and it was like a mini field trip. But after a while, it all started to settle in. I started to feel the effects of total isolation and the lack of family and the disconnection to the outside world had me going through some tough times during the first day. But the energy of my friends really got...

Quarter 1 Blog

Hello 'Ilima We have come a long way and we can say goodbye to the first quarter, but let's look back at some of the biggest things that happened this quarter. I want to start with my classes. I have all new teachers except for my science and it’s been an interesting transition process. My new classes are Algebra 1, Social Studies, ELA, and Financial Literacy. Each class is different in their own ways and I enjoy each of them for their own reasons. Algebra is filled with a bunch of people I know, Social Studies is quiet, ELA is relaxing, and Financial Literacy discusses interesting topics. If I had to rank my new classes it would be 1. ELA 2. Algebra 3. Financial Literacy 4. Social Studies. Another thing about my classes is the work involved. We’ve had a lot of things to do from tests, to essays, and projects. The math tests were probably the most stressful assignment, mainly because they had a lot at stake. NHD also began this year and my topic is the Civil Rights Movement, s...
