Weekly Blog 2-1 (44): Loooooooong Opening

Hello ‘Ilima

This was our first week back in the second quarter and the best way to describe it was exhausting. That whole week felt like multiple weeks all in one. To start off, we had a field trip to Campbell on Friday. The trip was for all of 8-3 to understand the academies, ask questions, and get to know the campus. It was a pretty good experience as it helped me narrow down my options and the tour was informative. To get into more detail, the day started with a presentation about the athletic programs. The different sports are broken up by seasons that come throughout the year. The sports that caught my eye were Air Riflery and Golf. They were both uncommon and required minimum athleticism, just needing patience and accuracy. The. The presentation moved onto the Academies and the ambassadors of the Academies gave us information about their Academy. After that, we were put into different groups with an ambassador leading us. Our leader was the STEAM Ambassador and she was very friendly. We started our tour by seeing the Graphic Design and Construction classes. Both looked pretty cool but I didn’t want to do either because I wasn’t good at drawing and construction isn’t something I’m looking to do as a career. We then got to see the Film Production room which turned me off as it felt very awkward and the overall vibes from the students were off. We then got to the Health Sciences building which was the newest one. I liked the building a lot and the classes were pretty nice. We got to look around a Diagnostic Services room and there were real kidneys and eyeballs there. The next place the Business and Nature building and there was soooo many stairs. Besides the amount of walking, the place was pretty nice and the classes were cool. One teacher stood out specifically. His name was Mr. Alexander and he was just very chill and friendly. Besides the classes, we also got to see some portables, their front office, and their huge garden. After the tours, the Academy I was thinking of doing was the Business and Nature, specifically the Entrepreneurship pathway. Overall, the trip was really funny and helped me a lot. Besides the trip, there was an assembly on the second day about bullying. Real cops came to the cafeteria and presented to us a neat slideshow with some interesting facts that I didn’t know about. I learned how many predators the cops catch, what your lungs look like after vaping, and the type of donuts that the police like. This assembly was most definitely needed as there has been so many fights going on this year. But clearly the assembly didn’t help as there was still fights going on after the assembly. In other news, school has been a total pain. There’s way too many NHD assignments going on at once, we had a Summative Assessment to do for Social Studies, and we have a Financial Literacy presentation to do. Teachers should just dial this stuff back as they still have to grade all of this work. I’m way too exhausted every day when I get home, just to do more work. My eye hurting for majority of the week also didn’t help as I could barely see from my left eye without tearing up. To end this on a high note, Fishing Club had their first meeting and it was pretty fun. There was only one other person there, but it was fine since we are good friends. The club started with a quick introduction and then we moved onto the important responsibilities of a fisherman. For being the rookie in the group, I got most of the answers and I was pretty proud of myself. We then moved onto designing a shirt for the club and I loved the end design. We created an ‘ama’ama fish getting caught and wrote the responsibilities of a fisherman on the bottom. It turned out really good and I can’t wait to see it as a real shirt. In conclusion, this week was a drag with some positives thrown in.

A highlight from this week would be the 8-3 events, being the Field Trip and the Assembly. The Field Trip was a fun way to learn more about my future school and was a needed break. The Assembly was pretty interesting and allowed me to not have to suffer in Mr. Damo’s class. The next highlight would be spending time with my parents. We went to a restaurant on Wednesday and the food was pretty good. I wish I had gotten something different though as fried food wasn’t really what my body needed. Then on Saturday, my Mom and I had a day out and we spent a whole lot of money. Shoes, Bags, Legos, and a lot more. It was very fun and I had a great time with my Mom. Moving onto the lowlights, I could probably just name the rest of the week. School was such a bore and I was just tired. I need to win a 3 month vacation to the Bahamas so I can recoup my energy. Or I should just make clones to do all the work for me. Whatever it is, I need a break but I know it won’t be coming for a while.

The first lesson I learned from this week what that experiencing something is much better than just reading or hearing about it. This correlates to the Campbell Field Trip as I had only heard about the large campus and only heard about the school, but actually being able to go to the school and see the different buildings helped me much better than just hearing about this school. This also works with experiencing a restaurant and not just reading the reviews. I’ve also learned from this week that life won’t get easier. This was the first week of school and I was already bombarded with assignments and projects that I am dreading to do. But it won’t slow down and I will just get more and more work. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
