Weekly Blog 3-10 (63): It's (Almost) Over

Hello 'Ilima

This was the last week of the third quarter and a lot went down during this week. First of all, we had the last major event of the quarter on Friday, that being the Elementary School Dance Competition. Going into this, I was expecting to have a fun time. We would get to watch the different schools preform their hearts our and we could just be doors. Oh but how wrong I was. For this event, all of the tables were taken out and replaced by foldable chairs. I didn't put up those chairs as it was dance, but I would have to help put them away. I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, so let's rewind a bit. My job was working as a door, greeting and welcoming people in. Jacob, Emma, and Cherish were also doors and for the first couple hours, we didn't have much to do. We just talked, played simon says, and had fun. Eventually, some of the elementary schools went inside the cafeteria to practice their dance. The door group, me and the aforementioned door workers, used their practicing as an opportunity to gauge how good the schools were. From what we observed,  most of the schools looked pretty good, with the standout school probably being August Aherns. But there was one school that just looked off, that being Pohakea. First of all, their instructor was constantly yelling at the students to get to their positions and to do better. I could kind of understand the last part because the students didn't look like they had that much energy while they were dancing. But that was the only school that felt off and the rest was fine. After the practices ended, the door group went to our respective doors and got ready for work. I had the special task of working the VIP door where I had to open the door for the VIPs. The job was pretty simple for the most part and I kept on working until it was time for the event to start. When it started, the different judges were introduced and then the order of elementary schools were announced. When it was time for the first school to come onto stage, I had to open the doors so that they could walk into the Cafeteria. I had Valerie help with this as she had nothing to do and I needed a second person to open the other door. There's nothing else much to say about my door job, so I will focus on the actual performance. I had already watched the performances from their practice, but you could see the increase in the student's energy when it was time for the actual performance. When all the performances was over, they all did one big performance in the crowd which was pretty cool. Finally, all the schools were brought to the stage where the winner was announced. And first place was..... August Aherns! I agreed with the decision as August Aherns had nice props and choreo, but I am a bit salty that Holomua didn't win. So after the winner was announced, we had to start the clean up. For this clean up, we had to put away every single foldable chair, then carry those foldable chairs to a place to be put away. To say this was tiring would be an understatement as there was so many chairs. That was no joke the most amount of chairs I've seen in one room and they were also uncomfortable to hold. But after all the chairs were put away, we then had to move all the tables back in, which just added to the exhaustion. But we were able to get the job done and go home. Besides the big event, not much else happened this week.

Fakest Smiles You Have Ever Seen

The first highlight from this week would be Super Smash Bros Ultimate. In ELA, Ms. Acob brought her Nintendo Switch for us to use and the game that was picked was Super Smash Bros. I was very excited that Smash Bros was picked because a little fun fact about me is that I used to be really good at Smash Bros. I had beaten the full story mode, played online ranked games, and just destroy everyone I faced. So me and 3 other boys sat down in front of the TV and got our controls. I got a pretty standard pro controller which was much better than what others got. We quickly picked a map and then it was the character select screen. And to my delight, Pyra & Mythra was an available option. Pyra & Mythra was my main back when I was really good, so it was great that I could use them. I started the first match a little bit rusty, but I ended up winning. Then I won again, and again, and again. I think I won 6 times in a row before I decided to change my characters. Even then, I was still winning so then I started picking characters I had never used before. But besides all of the winning which was fun, I had a great time just playing with my friends. The next highlight of the week would be the lunar eclipse. This highlight didn't start off that special to me as I had no intention of looking at the eclipse. Everyone at school was talking about looking at the eclipse and I just believed it to be boring. But when my dad asked if I wanted to go see the lunar eclipse with him, I said yes as I didn't want to be a Negative Nancy. So when it was time for the eclipse to start, I had my camera out and stared at the moon. As I was staring, the moon slowly started turning red and it was a unreal sight. What made it better was that I was with my dad to watch it and we had a great time looking at the lunar eclipse. The only lowlight of the week was the Elementary School Dance Competition. It was just a series of events that kept on building up my exhaustion. From hours of standing, to constant loud sounds, and the putting away of all the chairs, I felt like I was dreaming at certain points throughout the night. But this a good week overall.

The lesson from this week would be things are better with company. This comes from both the Elementary School Dance Competition and the lunar eclipse. First, the Elementary School Dance Competition had a lot of down time during the beginning. Without my door group, I might have literally fallen asleep because there would have been nothing else going on. But with them, I had a lot of fun and was able to keep my energy up. Then for the lunar eclipse, I had no intentions of watching the eclipse, but I was able to have a change of heart when I learned that my dad actually wanted to watch the eclipse. From both of these experiences, I can understand some events can be really boring, but having a friend or a loved one can make it better.

For the final week of  Magic Notes in this quarter, we had a lot of good contenders. The honorable mentions of this week are.... Cheyanne and Riselle!!! Cheyanne's Magic Note was nice and gave me something to reflect on. Riselle's Magic Note was funny and had her usual energy in it. The winners from this week are..... Naomi and Sienna!!! Both of these Magic Notes shared the fact that they were very detailed and also very nice. So now Sienna takes the top spot away from Riselle with a lead of 0.5 points. The battle is getting very intense and we will have to see how it turns out in the fourth quarter. With that being said, this concludes this blog. I hope you have a great break. Cheers to another day!
