Weekly Blog 4-5 (68): A Palace of Surprises

Image
Hello 'Ilima This week of school felt LONG! To start off, the SBG officers (plus Sienna) went to Ice Palace to take attendance of the 7th graders. With 6 officers, two of us would be assigned to one bus and that would be the bus we needed to take the attendance of. I was paired up with Alex and had bus 2. Taking attendance was simple, ask for their name and then check them off. But the great thing about this was that we were able to go to Ice Palace and actually skate. So I made sure to bring a jacket and gloves so that I could stay warm. Once the 7th graders were all outside, we organized them into lines based off what bus they would be riding on. Then, when the buses arrived, we took the attendance of the students. The attendance went by very quickly and so we were off to Ice Palace. The bus ride was pretty normal and when we arrived at Ice Palace, we put the students into lines while we waited for Ice Palace to open. After a couple minutes, a worker from Ice Palace quickly gave...

Weekly Blog 4-4 (67): SBA Testing

Image
Hello 'Ilima This week of school was very special as this was the week of SBA testing. But the way SBA testing was done was very unique. Instead of both grades testing during their classes, one grade would test for 2 days in their advisory. 8th grade had to test on Monday and Tuesday which was actually amazing because that means there would be a 5 day weekend. So on the first day of testing, all of the 8th graders mentally prepared for the worst to come. The first subject we would test on would be ELA which was the best outcome as it means I could spend more time studying Math and Science. We started with writing an essay and my topic was an explanatory on how devices were ruining people's focus. It was actually pretty simple and I was the first person to finish in my advisory. Then after the essay was ELA questions that were also rather simple. But I expected ELA to be the simple day because ELA is my best subject. Besides the testing, we spent a lot of time just waiting arou...

Weekly Blog 4-3 (66): An 'Ilima Movie

Hello 'Ilima Another week done and this one was pretty long. Starting off, we had an event this week which was the Parent Orientation. The event was for the parents of the 6th graders coming to 'Ilima to inform them about our school. Leadership's main job was to set up the orientation and then pass out fliers. The task was pretty simple and after that, we just had to wait for the event to finish. At the start of the Orientation, they were showing an 'Ilima trivia game and it was actually pretty cool. I knew a lot of the answers, but some of them actually caught me off guard and it was nice to learn something new about 'Ilima. Besides the Parent Orientation, we had to move the big wooden blocks to I104 this week. The moving happened during my period and required us to put one of the blocks in a tractor, go to I104, take the block off the tractor, and then go back to the cafe to repeat the cycle. The moving of the first block went well. There were some learning curve...

Weekly Blog 4-2 (65): Orientation Time

Image
Hello 'Ilima After months of preparation, this was the week where the Orientation would finally happen. Orientation is a huge deal for Leadership as we spend all of our free time practicing and working on the Orientation. The first day of our Orientation was for Holomua, my former school, and I was pretty nervous. I had a very unique role for the Orientation as the Pre-Show host. For the beginning part of the show where the schools were still coming in, I had to keep the kids who were in the Cafe entertained. In preparation for the Pre-Show, I brought a deck of cards and a Rubik's Cube so that I can do tricks and bring audience members on stage. When the first bus came for Holomua, I walked onto stage and grabbed a mic so that I would be ready for when they walked in. The first group of kids entered the door and I gave a simple greeting. As they went to their seats, I began to get very nervous. I was scared that they wouldn't find the things I did interesting and just be b...
