Weekly Blog 4-5 (68): A Palace of Surprises
Hello 'Ilima
This week of school felt LONG! To start off, the SBG officers (plus Sienna) went to Ice Palace to take attendance of the 7th graders. With 6 officers, two of us would be assigned to one bus and that would be the bus we needed to take the attendance of. I was paired up with Alex and had bus 2. Taking attendance was simple, ask for their name and then check them off. But the great thing about this was that we were able to go to Ice Palace and actually skate. So I made sure to bring a jacket and gloves so that I could stay warm. Once the 7th graders were all outside, we organized them into lines based off what bus they would be riding on. Then, when the buses arrived, we took the attendance of the students. The attendance went by very quickly and so we were off to Ice Palace. The bus ride was pretty normal and when we arrived at Ice Palace, we put the students into lines while we waited for Ice Palace to open. After a couple minutes, a worker from Ice Palace quickly gave everyone the rules of Ice Palace. Then, when the guy was done explaining, everyone was free to enter Ice Palace. SBG quickly found a table and put our things down so that Mr. Ing could work on his computer. Once we were all ready, it was time to hit the ice. I went to practice at the easy section first, but a worker saw my shoes and said I would have broken my ankles if I didn't get my shoes tied correctly. But the worker was nice enough to tie them for me and so then I was off to hit the ice. It took me a bit to get my balance, but I was eventually able to kind of stand. So after skating around the easy section a little, I went to the main section. There, the majority of students were skating (or at least attempting to). I got onto the ice and it was a bit difficult to follow around the rink. I began to fall, but after the first couple times I got used to hitting the ground. After some time getting used to bigger section, I was starting to improve slightly. People around me tried to give me advice on how to skate, but I'm pretty poor at putting advice into action and kept on failing. After around a hour of ice skating, I took a break and decided to continue my tradition from last year. If you don't know what happened last year, let me quickly explain. So very similar to this year, I was tired from skating and wanted a drink. I went to line and looked for the biggest size which was a pitcher size. I had assumed that it was hyperbole and not an actual pitcher, so I ordered a Sprite, pitcher size. But what I didn't realize is that it was an actual pitcher full of Sprite. My jaw was dropped, but I decided to drink the whole pitcher by myself. So this year, I ordered a full pitcher of Coke Zero and drank it by myself. So after that drink break, I went back on the ice and I felt like I was improving. I didn't fall as much and was able to have sustained stretches of success on the ice. Then, we eventually had to leave and take one final attendance count before driving back to campus. Everyone was back and so we all got on the bus and headed back to 'Ilima. I ended the day falling 23 times which is pretty bad. What makes it worse is that as I am writing this, my whole body is bruised and it hurts move which is fun. Then, back on campus, we spent the rest of the day in the cafeteria. It was overall pretty fun day and we got things done. Besides that, there are a couple things to mention about school. First of all, we are going to have a debate in Science. On Wednesday, Mr. Heloca split the class in two and assigned each side one thing. Either analog waves or digital waves. The debate was going to be on which type of wave was better for space travel, and my side got analog waves. When my group heard this news. we all collectively complained as from the pre research we did on Monday, we learned that digital waves were better for space travel. So now we would have to argue against the better wave and I got picked to be the leader for my group which means I had to talk on why analog was better. But I didn't let these disadvantages overwhelm me as I created a google doc for the group to put their findings in. Then, we compiled the evidence into a couple bullets for me to remember. I'm excited for this debate and can't wait to see how it turns out. Then, we learned about our final project in ELA. We are going to have to write an essay about an invention we make and the unexpected consequence of it. I don't know what my invention will be yet, but I know that will do my best on the project. Overall, it was a long week and I haven't even mentioned everything yet.
The first highlight from this week would go to the NFL draft. For months now, I have been anticipating the draft and this week was when it was finally gonna start. My dad even took days off so that he could watch the draft with me. I was so excited and the second I got home on Thursday, we turned the tv on and watched the draft. I won't go over everything about the draft, but just know that it lived up to the expectations I put on it. The next highlight from this week would be Saihate Station. During the weekend, I was looking on Steam for games to play. I eventually found an indie game called Saihate Station that looked really cool so I decided to download it and give it a try. The game revolves around Haru, a lonely worker, falls asleep on a train. He wakes up and nobody else is on the train. After a bit of searching, he finds his perfect co-worker, Tatsunami, also on the train. The two of them must now find a way to escape as they reconnect their bond. It's such an amazing story and I would encourage you to play it for yourself. It is free to play and the art is so amazing. The last highlight from this week would be my Uncle coming over on Saturday. It was very close to both my Uncle and Dad's birthdays, so we decided to celebrate them both on the same day. My mom and I cooked a huge meal of smothered porkchops, roasted and mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, Asian salad, and a variety of desserts for all of us to eat and it was incredible. I had a great time making the different foods and they all turned out very delicious. Then for the lowlights, I have to be honest. I don't really have any lowlights. It was a really good week with a lot of fun things going on. The only real lowlight would be me being tired of lot, so I guess that is the lowlight of the week.
The lesson from this week is that there are always things you don't know. So let's go back to the NFL draft. There are 3 different prospects who all got drafted notably below their expected draft positions. A CB who had very high pedigree and amazing tape, an DE who had was a great pass rusher, and a QB who was a projected first rounder. All three guys, for a variety of reasons, dropped out of the first round and way below where analysts predicted them to go. What these three cases tell us is that there is always things behind the scenes that we just don't know about. Whether the person had bad injuries, if they have criminal history, or just bad character, these are important bits of information that the public just can't get ahold of. This whole situation can be brought into normal situations as there are just things that we don't know as normal humans. We don't know how some things are done or how somethings are made, we just know what we can get from them.
After a one week break from Magic Notes, we return back to the Magic Note routine with a lot of good notes. The only honorable mention from this goes to... Gledys! Gledys's Magic Note this week was very sweet and thoughtful which made it work a spot as a honorable mention. The winner of this week is... Riselle! Her Magic Note stood out from the rest and covered more ground then a lot of the other Magic Notes. It felt personal and more distinct and deserved to be the winner. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
