The First Week/Differences in Classes
Welcome Back Ilima
This first week of school has been great with 7th graders experiencing the new school with new teachers and different classmates. As a 7th grader myself, I’ve enjoyed this week of learning and experiencing new things. I have 6 classes of Science, Social Studies, Leadership, English, Math, and Avid. For Leadership, I had spent 2 months in the summer preparing for the school year and during that time I gained many connections. This causes many differences between my classes and I would like to discuss those things.
First of all, Leadership is my current favorite class due to the fact that I’ve been in this group for the past couple of months. To push that aside, I enjoy Leadership because of its smaller class size which allows for connections to be created easier while in other classes it is harder to connect with the rest of the students. I also like Leadership because we are allowed to do more things instead of having one subject for the whole year. The final thing is that I like that our class syllabus is informative but not boring. It is weird that most of my other classes haven’t given us a syllabus yet though. But besides these things, it is hard to compare Leadership with the other classes because the things we do are so different.
To compare the other classes, my favorite one is Social Studies taught by Mr. Cole. I enjoy this class because Mr. Cole is an informative teacher who is relatable and knowledgeable. He talks loud enough for everyone to hear him and covers interesting topics. I also like the subject of Social Studies because it is fun to look back at the history of our world. The next teacher I want to talk about is Dr. Heloca who teaches Science. Some of my friends have said that he would talk about himself a lot but for me, he hasn't really mentioned himself. This contrasts Mr. Cole, where he would talk a lot about himself and stories from his past which I enjoy hearing. I don't like Science as a class because I am not interested in most of the topics covered, but I will stay optimistic for the future. After Dr, Heloca, the next teacher is Ms. Chen who teaches Math. We learned a lot about Ms. Chen from a slideshow she made which only one other teacher did. I like this idea because it allows the student to learn about the teacher and maybe agree on some things. I enjoy Math but I would rather do other things, but I'm excited for what we will learn. Then there is Ms. Miya who teaches Language Arts. I haven't learned much about her, but she makes us place our backpacks on a counter which makes it harder to get our things. I like Language Arts a lot but I don't have enough information to make an opinion on the class. Finally, there is AVID taught by Ms. Scarborough. She was the other teacher to show us a slideshow about herself and like I said before, I like the fact they show us a slideshow about themselves. Ms. Scarborough is also relatable like Mr. Cole and she also was very friendly. I so far like AVID but I don't know what to expect from the class besides preparing for college. Overall, I enjoy the classes but it is too early to make a full opinion.
To end of the blog, I want to reflect on the whole week in a quick summary. The first two days were mainly introductions and the lunch was ok. It was a good introduction to the year and I had fun. Thursday had the first long classes of periods 1, 3, and 5. The lunch of chicken potstickers was also really good. Then Friday was the even periods and the lunch was like a 6.4/10. The first week overall has been a great introduction to the year and I have had a lot of fun with my friends. This is the end for now and let's have a cheers to another day.
