Quarter Blog #3
Hello ‘Ilima
This has so far been the most busiest quarter yet. We have had so many different projects and events this quarter that is is actually insane. The sheer amount of stuff we did was crazy. First of all, there was spirit week, graduation picture taking, two family nites, recognition night, and elementary school dance competition. The biggest of these events was Spirit Week. It spans, you guessed it, a week and has so many different parts to it. I had a lot of work during that time period, but I enjoyed the week overall. The different dress ups was fun and the big team events were so exciting. Those big team events were Cheer Off and Relay Race. Cheer Off was such an amazing environment and I loved performing. Relay Race was very exhilarating and seeing the players advance was so fun to watch. Next, graduation picture taking was a two day event where we had to dress up the 8th graders for their graduation pictures. It was pretty awkward having to dress the people up, but it was still pretty good. The two family nites from this quarter were also another really cool event. The first one was science (I think). That one was so col as I got to fly drones around. But I could be thinking of a different family nite. The second family nite was ELA and I was working at a heads up game. It was pretty cool to see the families play the game and I had an overall great time. This family nite was during Spirit Week and I had braided my hair back for the day. Everyone in Leadership said that I looked like Mr. Ing which was pretty funny. Recognition night was also this quarter and it was pretty chill. Not as many people showed up and it was still exciting to go on stage and accept the award. But I did lose my ID that day which was pretty bad. Finally, elementary school dance competition was this week and it was so fun. Seeing the different schools dance was so cool and most of the teams were really good. This quarter didn't just have events that we put on as there was the NHD competition. I wasn't prepared at all and I came in having a lot of nerves. But, the competition was more fun than I thought it was gonna be. The interviews at the beginning were pretty easy, and then I just was able to have fun with my friends for the rest of the time. I ended up not winning, but I am definitely going to come back stronger next year. This quarter wasn't all happiness as we had so much school work. We had an AVID career project, a social studies timeline, math tests, and the dreaded SBA test. The AVID career project was pretty simple as we just had to do research on a career that we were interested in. The social studies timeline however was a very long project for me as I decided to make an interactive timeline. Little did I know that the project would end up taking me weeks to finish and result in 275 slides. Then, math tests are always bad so I don't need to go in depth into that. Finally, the SBA test for ELA happened and I hate it. We had to write an essay about a given topic and there was so much reading. I was in so much pain while doing the SBA test, but I finished the essay and I can definitely wait until we take the next part. Overall, this quarter has just been so busy that I can not even fit half of the stuff from this quarter into this.
To start off with the highlights from this quarter, there are the events. Basically all of the events have been really fun and have been new and cool experiences for me. The science family nite was so fun because playing around with the drones and flying them around the stage was just exhilarating. Spirit Week was especially great for me as all of the different events were fun to see the people participate in. I loved being a part of the Cheer Off as I love representing for my team. I also had a great time with the relay race, but I wish that I had participated in it. Next, the NHD competition is also a huge highlight as I had so much fun playing different games with my friends. But with the positives, comes the negatives. I think the biggest lowlight from quarter has been the lack of sleep. I have been super tired for this whole quarter and I just can't wait for the break. I also don't enjoy all of these school projects that we have been doing. It is so much to handle and it is a bit overwhelming. But, this quarter has been such an exciting and fun quarter, even if I am praying for this break to come quicker.
The lessons I have learned from this week has usually came from me observing details. Seeing other people do bad things or seeing how I can improve all gave me lessons to learn. An example from last week was the person who was giving the disrespect to the teacher which gives me a lesson on being respectful. Or how one team can succeed because of how they are overlooked. Some lessons from personal experience were not panicking and to never be afraid to ask for help. All of these lessons are great for me to become a better person. But I think a lesson that can summarize this whole week is to be prepared. With all of the events and work this quarter, needing to be prepared is an essential thing. Sometimes, I don't get enough sleep and I feel tired for the day. Other days, I can get fully rested up and I feel energetic for the day. These were all lessons from this quarter.
With this quarter ending, it's time to look forward into the next quarter. Some things that I am excited for are the middle school dance competition as I already enjoy watching the dances, but now being in the Blaisdell would make it even more exciting. Another event that I am looking forward to is the 7th grade Class Day. I have never been to Ice Palace, so it will be a brand new experience for me. Orientation should also be a fun thing next quarter as I have been practicing my choreography for such a long time, and being able to show it others will be very exciting. If I can change something about this school and this year in general is the work. I am not saying that we get rid of all of the work, because that is dumb. I am saying that it should be spread out more. For some examples, having an AVID project due the same week as a Social Studies project while having a Family Nite is a recipe for disaster. Or no sleep. If you move either the Social Studies or the AVID project to a different week, then it would make me a much more happy person. Other small things that I would want to change is the bathrooms. I never feel comfortable going into the bathrooms as the floors are disgusting and there is always like 5 guys in the bathroom vaping. I would also want to change the lunch menus because they don't fill me up and only leave me wanting more. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a good week and good spring break. Cheers to another day!
