Weekly Blog #33: Normal is the New Boring 2: Boring Strikes Back

Hello ‘Ilima

Today was another boring week which might just be a blessing in disguise. My group this week worked tv and I would say that we did a great job. I was on tv 3 times and I made sure to do something different each time. But watching the broadcast back, I kind of died a little because of how cringe I was being. In ELA, we got to watch the Outsiders movie which was pretty good. There are some issues that I could point out, like how some characters look different then how they are described in the book, the dialogue from all of the characters is pretty stilted, and the movie is way to fast paced in the beginning parts of the movie, but I still really liked it. It was pretty annoying to watch it in school as all of the girls were screaming whenever the guys had their shirts off. This week was teacher’s appreciation week and so I went to all my teachers to tell them that I appreciate them. Not the most flashy, but still sincere. Riselle went to the extreme by making hand drawn letters for all her teachers that looked really cool. But one of the funniest things happened because of it being teacher’s appreciation week. So on Friday, all of the teachers got free lunch that they had to pick up. Like everyday, I was hungry and I kind of wanted to have some of what they were eating. So I had the perfect plan. I would use my baby doll, Joseph, to make them donate food to the “starving” child. I started with Dr. Heloca and it worked! He first laughed but he did give me Oreos. So you know I had to try it again. Ms. Chen was just collecting her food so I walked up to her with the same trick and it worked again. She gave me one of those chocolate cake things and then she went back to her room. At this point, my friends were invested and so I now had a camera crew following me for my next hustles. The next stop was Mrs. Miya’s class and you know what happened next. I got food. The substitute gave me a single golden Oreo that I savored. My friends are dumbfounded, but there was still more teachers to hustle. I found Mr. Cole in another teacher’s class eating the lunch and so I walked in with my same strategy, and it worked again. He started off by pretending to do feed Joseph mama bird style, but he eventually gave me a Twinke. At this point, my friends had lost their minds and they didn’t know how I did it. But there was one final person. Ms. Scarborough. We walked to her class and the others were shaking and quaking. But I power walked to her door and I was about to knock when a couple of 8th graders saw my friends recording. They got too embarrassed to keep recording and ran off. But I was still determined to get food. I knocked on her door and she opened it to see me doing my trick. She then grabbed one of those cakes and broke off a little crumb and put it into Joseph’s mouth. The final success. Like Thanos collecting the Infinity Stones, I had finally completed my challenge. But this week’s  relation to food doesn’t stop there. On Wednesday, Leadership got free leftover Domino’s pizza! I was so happy to see the food as I was hungry. But, I did control myself to only having one slice. Thinking about it now, this week was pretty fun. But I had to put in effort to make it more magical then it really was. Overall, this week was chill but fun.

A highlight from this week is the master level hustling I did. It was so fun acting like a person whose child was starving and needed food as I love to act. It was also so funny seeing my friends react to my shenanigans surprisingly working. The next highlight from this week was getting the pizza as free food always makes me happy. The final highlight from this week was watching the Outsiders movie as it was nice to see the adaptation of the thing we were readings for months. The lowlight that came from this week was that my friend got my ball stuck on a roof. Him and another friend wanted to use it and I allowed them to. They started throwing the ball around until one of them got the ball stuck. We tried asking security to help but they said the custodians were the one to get the balls down. I then tried to follow up the next day but they said that they couldn’t get it down right now. So the ball is still stuck up there, or at least I hope it is. Besides this stuck ball, this week was over ally pretty good.

The lesson I from this week was that it doesn’t hurt to ask. I mainly learned this from my hustling as I was basically just asking for food. They might say no, which they didn’t, but it is still good to ask because they might say yes. This could help me in countless situations as I am always scared to ask. Like with the stuck ball, I was scared to ask the security people because they are kind of scary. But it doesn’t hurt to ask so even if they said no, I still got a bit of closure so I can move on. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
