Weekly Blog 1-8 (43): First Dominoes Down
Hello ‘Ilima
This week has had the most events go on so far which has been very interesting. Thursday was a double header with ISA Flag Football and Family Nite. Flag Football was first with 3 SBGS, including me, attended. The event was taking place in Ewa Makai and it was going to be my first time seeing and being on the campus. It was much larger than I expected with all of the buildings being clean and the floors not being cracked. The boys on our team started practicing and us SBGS started walking around getting photos and videos. A wrench was thrown in our plan as the ‘Ilima 8th graders weren’t wearing their jerseys. It was pretty annoying, but we were able to find other pictures. Throughout the whole time, I had a pretty bad day because it was so hot and there was so much walking. But it wasn’t just any walking, we had to walk across a huge field over and over again going from side to side to try get pictures. I like walking, but this was absurd. The only good part was that I got a picture with the Ewa Makai mascot. Later that day was the first Family Nite. The Family Nites was formatted differently with two subjects being grouped together. This one was Math and Science. I worked at my Algebra Teacher’s Coordinate Dart Booth and it was pretty cool. All I had to do was hand them darts and explain what to do. At one point, I had to get my stamps and a Campbell student named Lexi actually filled in my spot which was unexpected but very cool and very appreciated. The other events at the Family Nite were pretty decent. The one I wanted to try, Can Crush, wasn’t working which was a bit of a bummer, but the other events were still fun. My favorite one was probably the Earthquake one because I was a true innovator. Basically the goal was to add support to a building to cause it to stop shaking from an earthquake. The normal solution was to take the t shape thing and add weights to the bottom. I did that, but I also added weights to the hooks at the top of the t. The guy running the booth and my parents thought what I did was silly, but it actually worked. The guy said this was the first time he saw something like what I did and he seemed kind of happy. The rest of this week didn’t have that much going on, but there was still some stuff. We have an ELA essay that is gonna be our final and it’s about events that changed ourselves or others. My essay has so far been going pretty well and I’ve met all the criteria that Ms. Acob set. The last thing that I am going to mention is that TV has been being a huge issue lately. The mics have been either not working or been super quiet which is annoying everyone. Next week, we are switching to handheld mics which is gonna be an interesting experience. Overall, this week was very eventful but is still just the start of the year.
Group Picture after Family Nite
The first highlight of the week is probably Family Nite. The events were pretty fun, the work wasn’t too hard, and I had an overall good time. The next highlight would be the final chapter of a manga I read finally concluding. It was kind of hard to comprehend that the manga was ending, but I thought that the ending was pretty good. People online have been hating on the ending, but I thought it was a good way to conclude the arcs of the characters and it was probably the best way it could have ended. There probably should have been more details added to fill out some parts of the stories, but I liked the ending and the whole story overall. The first lowlight would be Flag Football because it was super boring and tiring. It would maybe be excused if the games were exciting, but I wasn’t given any reason to be interested in the games. The other lowlight would be schoolwork because there’s been so much to do. We had multiple tests and essays this week which just brings down the spirit of a person. Overall this week was fine.
The first lesson I learned was to never get cocky. I watched a college football game today and it was pretty hyped up. It was the number 2 Georgia vs the number 4 Alabama. Alabama quickly got a lead of 28-0 in the 2nd quarter and it looked like they were just going to dominate the game. But they slowed down and in the 4th quarter were down 34-33. They ended up winning the game but for me the point is that the job isn’t finished until it is finished. Don’t get cocky because you’re ahead, keep on going at 100% until it’s over. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
