Weekly Blog 2-7 (50): A Very Thankful Time
Hello 'Ilima
HAPPY 50 BLOGS!!! This has been a long time coming and I have grown so much over the course of these blogs. My format has changed, my style has changed, and so much more. I am so grateful for all the people who read this and I can't wait for the future milestones. This week of school was shortened because of the Harvest Banquet but it still had some stuff to it. The biggest event from this week was the Turkey Trot. For this year, there was no race because apparently kids were getting hurt. My job was also different this year as I was helping with attendance and not being a human cone. A decent amount of classes came and they were mostly behaved well. I brought my pilgrim hat from last year just to bring some holiday spirit. Another thing from this week was the evacuation drill. We had learned a bit about the evacuation the week beforehand and Monday was the day of the drill. I actually didn't know it was gonna happen Monday, and I especially didn't expect it to be so early, but that is more of a me problem. My job for the evacuation was attendance which entailed me collecting the attendance sheets of the classes. I was kind of stressed out and I didn't feel any better after one blunder. Mr. Ing, over the walkie, asked me to check E104 to see if a student was missing or not. But me and my deaf ears could not tell if it was E104 or D104. I asked multiple times and I looked like a chicken scrambling around. Eventually some others calmed me down and helped me understand, but I just felt very stupid in the moment. But, I am able to look back at the situation and understand where I went wrong and how I can improve. Instead of asking for him to just keep on repeating himself, I could have asked, "E as in elephant?" in order to understand fully. Besides these events, the most notable thing to happen in school was the Nintendo Switch Day. In Ms. Acob's class, we got to play on the switch for the whole period and it was electric. The two games played were Mario Kart and Mario Party. I picked the goat, King Boo, in both games and I played pretty well. It was defintely a rocky start, but I showed why I am clearly the King of Period 4 ELA. Now, the best part of the week would obviously be Turkey Day. This year's Take Over of America day was really fun as I a big part in the cooking. This year, we tried a new dish that even my mom never made. Classic Southern Mac and Cheese. The night before Grateful Festivities Day, we went to Safeway and the amount of cheese we bought was insane. There was Gouda, Colby Jack, Cheddar, Havarti, and so much more. We even bought a food processor for the recipe. I won't go over all the different steps, but it took a lot of effort that was all worth the end result. The Mac and Cheese was so good that I can barely find words to describe it. The only downside was that it wasn't as creamy as you would want a Mac and Cheese. But the flavor was so good and the texture was perfect. The rest of our Thank You Day meals were awesome. The cranberry sauce was as amazing as it always is, the stuffing was the most flavorful it has been, the turkey was very juicy, and the Hawaiian Rolls remain goated. For the rest of the day, my family (including Uncles and Aunties) watched football, ate dessert, and played video games. Overall, it was a very successful Harvestfest. The rest of the week was spent resting, however I had to go with my mom for hula practice during a couple days. Her company's CEO is apparently retiring and is taking a tour around all of the company buildings across the country and so my mom and a couple of her coworkers are going to be doing hula for the CEO. My mom wanted me to learn some of the hula and I tried, but emphasis on tried. I've always sucked at dancing, stemming back all the way to pre-school and the Spring Performances, and having to start from the mid-way point of a hula teaching does not help me at all. I still remember some of the moves so that might be an interesting TV skit. But this week was just an overall good rest week and had a lot fun to it.
The first highlight from this week has to be Co-Cornucopia. It was so fun to cook the dishes and to also be with my family. Watching the football games with my family was so exciting, especially because of all of the fantasy football implications it had. The next highlight from this week would have to be my Retro Bowl League as the Roanoke Flamingos have clinched the Gauntlet Division and have reached 10 Franchise Wins. It has been a rocky season with a 3 game losing streak in the middle of the season, but we are currently playing really well and we just need to keep this momentum going in the Playoffs. The last highlight from this week will be the Nintendo Switch Day as it was just such a fun way to end the school week off. Last period of the day on the last day of the week, me and the rest of the class just get to have fun and it was such a blast. The first lowlight from this week would be the evacuation drill as I really nervous and the one mistake I made stressed me out so much. The other lowlight from this week from be tweaking my neck. Waking up on Friday morning, the right side of my neck was in absolute pain. I could barely put my head to the right and I was just miserable. Something like this happened years ago during distance learning but idk why it happens. I’ve spent the past couple days resting my neck and applying things to it and it has been working really well. It currently has a hurt percentage of 3% which is much better than it was a couple of days ago. But besides my neck, I had a good week.
The lesson I learned from this week is to use mistakes as opportunities to improve. Multiple times this week, I’ve made mistakes like with the evacuation, during cooking, and other parts of my life. Instead of sitting around and whining, I should look to understand why I failed. If I am able to understand that cause, I will be able to tweak it so that the effect is better. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
