Weekly Blog 2-8 (51): Presentations of Talent

 Hello 'Ilima

We are entering the homestretch! Just two more weeks of school before winter break and I couldn’t be more excited. I am tired and exhausted, but let’s cover what has happened this week. The biggest thing from this week was the first talent show in 7 years. We were finally able to get enough people to sign up and there was many preparations to the show. I’m pretty sure I mentioned this in an earlier blog but I had helped set up a group’s equipment a couple weeks ago. On the night of the talent show, the different contestants were given some time to practice what they were going to be doing. The variety of talents weren’t that diverse, mainly singing and dancing, but the performers did a really good job in their own ways. My favorite performances would have to be Blackout and Riselle’s In the Aeroplane Over the Sea performance. Blackout was the band of 7th graders and they played 3 songs, Everlong, 505, and a third one that I forgot. They did really good and I especially loved the drummer who went all out during Everlong. The only critique is that the singer’s volume was too quiet. Then Riselle had her solo performance of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. She sang the song so beautifully and her ukulele play was amazing. The talent show was an overall success and it should be the starting domino for more talent shows down the road. Throughout this week, Campbell students came to our advisories to give us presentations on the different programs and electives of Campbell. Because the students weren’t going to be coming to A101, we had to find new advisories to listen to the presentations. Jacob and I decided on going to Mr. Bob’s class because of all of the friends we have in that class. The first presentation was on the different academies. None of the academies had something that I really wanted to do as a career, but I ended up picking Business as my academy. The next couple presentations were on the different electives they had which introduced me to News-writing which was something that I really wanted to do. I wasn't really impressed by the other offerings and it didn't help that the presenters weren't the best either. They were pretty quiet and they were mainly reading of the screen. But despite that, I am still excited for Campbell and the new opportunities that await. In other news, I finished my ELA Diagnostic and got a 732 (11th Grade Level). The Diagnostic was pretty easy and I am glad that I got a good score. Something that I am hoping that I will get a good score on as well is my math test. The test was on literal equations and had a lot of questions. Nobody finished the test on the first day but I was close to being done, I just needed to check my answers. But I am confident that I got a good score. But in an unfortunate turn of events, I lost in the first round my league's playoffs. It's really tragic as I had high expectations, but we will come back stronger and better next season. Overall, this week was pretty decent.

 Brand New Air fryer!

The first highlight from this week would be the talent show. When I say this, I am speaking about the performances because the talent that I got to see from the students who performed was extraordinary. It would have been so cool if there was a talent show last year but I just have to hear about the future ones while I am in Campbell. Speaking of Campbell, registering for Campbell would be the next highlight as it released a massive weight off of me. It was very nerve-wrecking to decide my academies and electives, but the second I was done with the form, I breathed a sigh of relief. The pressure of deciding my next 4 years was off for now and it was just a great feeling. The last highlight I will mention was my brand new air fryer. A couple weeks ago, my dad was able to pick a gift for 10 years of labor at his job. We ended up deciding on an air fryer and we decided on trying it out this week on some leftover fries. It took only 5 minutes and the fries were actually really good. It will be fun to air fry more things in the future. The first lowlight of the week would be my math test. I was stressing out the whole entire week because there was a lot to remember and I did not want to fail. Diagnostic testing can also be apart of this as there is so much pressure with the test. The last lowlight I will add is NHD. I spent this whole week adding the last details to my website and got finished maybe half-way through the week. The last thing that I needed was my partner to finish the Annotated Bibliography. So I had to patiently wait as they took until the last day the project was due to finish the bibliography. To say I was stressed out would be an understatement. But at least the project is done and I can push NHD to the side.

The lesson that I learned from this week is that if you want something done, then you have got to do it. I have multiple examples for this, some where I did what I had to do and one where I didn't. I wanted a good score on my tests, so I didn't just sit around and wait for the test to come up. I studied beforehand and practiced the different things I could come across so that I could be ready for the test. I wanted to be done with NHD, so I decided to suck up how terrible it is and finish my part of the project. But when I was thinking about the talent show and if I wanted to go, I was holding myself back because I felt like I didn't have any talent to do on stage. I could have most definitely found something to do but instead I didn't. If I want something to be done, I need to do it. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
