 Hello 'Ilima

What is up! It is the second week of school and I already feel miserable😁. But to explain why I feel this way, we got to look back at the week I had. The biggest part of this week was the ISA event. This one took place in Waianae and had Boy's Softball and Girl's Volleyball. So Alex and I got our cameras, walkies, and sanity and boarded the buss for Waianae. The best part of the trip came here because the bus rides were nice. Waianae is pretty far from 'Ilima so I was just relaxing, preparing myself for the day. A sign of trouble came early on when it started raining, forcing everyone on the bus to close their windows. I didn't think much about the rain, but little did I know how awful it was gonna be. Arriving at the school, our group headed to where the games would be played. The first set of problems came where I couldn't find where Mr. Sasso went. I looked around and asked some people, but nobody knew where he was. I began to turn a corner to look for him, when I saw them leaving the Boy's Locker Room. It makes sense, in hindsight, for why they would be in there and I probably should have paid more attention to where they were walking. But all of the boys were ready and they started walking out onto the field to practice. None of them seemed to really take it seriously, but that didn't stop me from getting pictures. After a brief meeting between all of the schools, the boys were sent to play their games. Walking deeper into the field, I could feel just how wet the grass was. But it wasn't like drowning wet, it was an uncomfortable wet that soaked my socks and made me miserable. All of this didn't stop my effort and I kept on taking pictures. But the only thing that did stop me was the fact that our school isn't very that good at softball. I would be waiting for something interesting to happen, only for nothing to happen at all. And the times something did happen, it usually happened on the other side of the field from where I was. It was pretty infuriating, but I still managed to get plenty of photos. Besides this cycle of pain, the ISA was fine. It wasn't that hot and I had ate food earlier so I wasn't hungry. I also didn't get a headache which is a positive. Moving on, the rest of the school week was a bit plain. I'm pretty sure I mentioned in the last blog about my science teacher being gone for a month and I am here to give an update. The substitute is weird. First of all, she barely knows what she is doing. All she really does in read instructions and pass things out. But she barely does the first thing as Mr. Shin recorded himself reading the slides and giving the instructions for the substitute to just play. But here is the funny part. She doesn't even play the slides herself. She gets a student to go up and click the button for her. I also heard a story from one of my close friends on one of the substitute's yaps. Apparently, the sub was rambling for half of the class on how she was a bad sub and one of the reasons she included was how she went to college with a 3rd grade level reading comprehension. I don't know if this story is true because I wasn't there, but it sounds very accurate because the sub is a bad reader. I kind of got lost from the original point, but all you need to know is that she isn't a good sub. But that really concludes the school side of things. But good thing that this weekend had so much SPORTS!!!! Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs and the College Football National Championship. I'll mainly talk about the games that I watched which were the second half of Commanders vs Lions, the 4th quarter of Eagles vs Rams, Bills vs Ravens, and then most of Ohio State vs Notre Dame. Starting with the first game, Commanders vs Lions was so fun. I missed out on the very electric first half, but the rest of the game was still tense and explosive. Being able to watch Jayden Daniels ball out was so awesome, mainly because I was really high on him entering the season. I feel awful for the Lions because it was their season. But they were just decimated by injuries and they still went far for how injured they were. Then there were Eagles vs Rams and I only watched it because it was right before the Bills and Ravens game and it was really close. I was kind of hoping the Rams would win for an awesome NFC Championship of Rams vs Commanders, but the Eagles are still cool. I actually think that the Commanders have a chance of beating the Eagles because I trust their offense more then I trust the Eagles. Jalen Hurts has been so average while Jayden Daniels has been truly game changing and that just makes me lean towards the Commanders to win. Then there was the Bills vs Ravens which I was very anticipated for. I don't really have a favorite team, but I root for the Bills because Josh Allen is my favorite player. The Bills started the game very assertive and took a 21-10 lead by the first half. But I could not explain to you how painful that second half was. So many missed opportunities and it felt like the Bills were just selling the game away. But a couple of mistakes from the Ravens ended their chances of coming back and the Bills won 27-25. I'm kind of scared for the Bills matchup against the Chiefs, but they beat them once this season already and I can hope that they beat them again. The final game I watched was Ohio State vs Notre Dame. The game was pretty competitive during the first half. Both offenses seemed pretty solid and it looked like it was gonna be a competitive game. In the middle of the game, I remembered my goal of walking 3 miles and so I left to go do my walk. But I kept myself updated on my the scores and Ohio State just began to dominate. When I came back, Ohio State had a 16 point lead and the game felt like it was over. Norte Dame almost pulled off a comeback, but a costly missed kick truly ended all of their chances. I feel happy for Ohio State fans just because of all they have had to go through over the past couple of years, but it sucks to see this awesome Notre Dame team lose. To rank the enjoyability of these games, 1. Commanders vs Lions. 2. Bills vs Ravens. 3. Eagles vs Rams. 4. Ohio State vs Notre Dame. But overall, this was a decent week.

Are You Serious Right Now?

The first highlight of this week would be football. It was just an absolute amazing weekend for sports and I had an awesome time watching. I had such a good time mainly because I was with my family while watching the games. The next highlight from be more of my Amazon purchases coming in. The big items were a new chair and a door hanging organizer. I needed a brand new chair because the old one was starting to break down and it was clear that I needed an upgrade. My brand new chair had included a footrest and a recline feature while also working which is super awesome. The organizer was bought so I can free up some space in my room and it actually worked well. The next thing I will be mentioning is both a highlight and a lowlight. The banning of TikTok (for like a day). When TikTok was first banned, I was distraught. TikTok has become a routine aspect of my day and I didn’t know when it was coming back. And there were so many times where I reached for my phone to use TikTok, only to remember that I couldn’t use it. But once TikTok came back like a couple hours later, I realized something very important about myself. I’m not gonna say right here but know that it made me rethink a lot of things. The first true lowlight from this week would be the ISA. I throughly explained why I disliked my time earlier so I’m just gonna give a quick recap. It was boring, my feet were wet, and it took forever. Next lowlight would be the science substitute. It’s just such a miserable experience with her as our teacher and I am just wishing for Dr. Heloca to come back.

The lesson from this week is that too much of a good thing is a bad thing. I foreshadowed this in the paragraph, but I will detail it more. I love TikTok. I find so many funny creators and videos that inspire my creativity or make me laugh. It truly is a great community. But I use TikTok way too much. Instead of doing work, I would just be scrolling TikTok all day. And when TikTok was gone, I caught myself trying to get my phone to scroll through TikTok. So know that TikTok is back, I am trying to stop myself from using TikTok as often as I used to. I’m starting this off by hiding my phone so if I want to scroll, I would need to actually move to get my phone which would be too much effort for the lazy me. Plus, not having the phone in direct vision makes me less likely to think about TikTok. All of this made me realize that sometimes too much of a good thing can be harmful. Too much of your favorite food can cause you medical issues or too much of your favorite game can cause you eye problems and make you grow sick of the game. So with all of this knowledge, I’ve been trying to rely less on the things that I always use. Hopefully I can see some real progress in a couple weeks.

With the start of the third quarter, I am proud to introduce the return of the Magic Notes. And just like last year, we will have a leaderboard. The top 3 people with the most favorited Magic Notes will get some kind of reward. So to start off, the first winner of the week is…. A tie? Yes you heard that right. Just like last year, I am awful at choosing favorites so I hand out multiple winners. I forget to mention the scoring so I will place it here. Winning gets you 1 point and being a honorable mention gets you 0.5 points. But this week has no honorable mentions so the joint winners were Cheyanne, Gledys, and Sienna. Cheyanne and Gledys were picked because it was really heartwarming to see the 7th graders I’ve been mentoring for the past couple months to say such nice things about me. I then picked Sienna because her magic note was very descriptive and made me realize that people think I know more than I actually do. So they all have 1 point and become our first set of leaders. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!

Leaderboard:
Cheyanne: 1
Gledys: 1
Sienna: 1
