Weekly Blog 3-5 (58): John Eagle

Hello ‘Ilima

Welcome back 'Ilima, this week of school was pretty chill compared to the weeks before. The first and only real big thing was that my Leadership period needed to dress up as the Spirit Week outfits for the homeroom rep meeting. I was assigned as Movie Day and I had trouble coming up with an outfit. So I talked it over with my mom and we decided on a John Wick outfit. I already had an outerwear and pants, so we just needed to buy a black shirt for the underneath and a black tie. And when everything was bought and the outfit was put together, I felt like it was really nice. My hair didn't look like John Wick's, but the outfit itself was really nice. So when it was time for the homeroom rep meeting, I got my costume displayed and it was pretty cool. But that was probably the biggest Leadership related thing from this week. Before I move onto this next topic, let me intro it by showing you a quote from last week's blog. "So all of 8-3 welcomes Mr. Heloca back and it's great that we will never have to see the substitute again." Well I had to see the substitute again as she was the Social Studies sub for Monday. I couldn't describe to you the absolute feeling of dread that I had, the moment I saw that she was the sub. It was like defeating a boss, only for the boss to revive with full health and does double damage. Walking into the class, she didn't even need to say a word before I could feel the pain that class period was gonna be. If you don't know Mr. Damo, he always keeps the lights off in his class. But with the sub, the room was full of light. Taking my seat, I awaited the suffering that I would have to endure. She handed out a packet to the whole class which was a critical read on a message from Thomas Jefferson. The packet was simple enough, but the sub wouldn't stop yapping. She kept on going on and on about nonsense and kept on mentioning one of my classmate's uncle for some reason. It was absolute terror and I was just praying for Mr. Damo return.. But he actually wouldn't return this week because he was also gone on Wednesday. Luckily, it was a different sub on Wednesday and we got to have Social Studies without being miserable. Moving on, let's talk FOOTBALL!!! THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES ARE SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!!! In an absolute dominant showcase of game, blowing out the Chiefs 40-22 (but really 40-6). Watching the game was just an absolute crazy experience. The Eagles had gotten an early lead, but I didn't put too much into it because the Chiefs are the Chiefs. But Patrick Mahomes had an absolute all time stinker of a game, throwing 2 interceptions (one a pick-six) and getting sacked 6 times to lose the game for the Chiefs. To give him some credit, his offensive line was playing horrible, but he still make a lot of questionable decisions. And on Philly's side, what a showcase of talent. They just out played Kansas City in every faucet of the game. Shoutout to Cooper Dejean, who my uncle predicted would have a big game. It was just such a fun game and the Eagles get their second franchise ring. But speaking of football, I got a trophy for winning my fantasy football league. I probably only got the trophy because I'm the only child and just such an awesome kid (please agree), but I will accept any trophy I get. It also looks exactly like the Lombardi trophy which is really cool. But this trophy wasn't the only decoration I got. My figure that I ordered months ago finally arrived and I am happy. It's a figure of Miwa Kasumi, a sword user from the anime Jujutsu Kaisen. When it arrived, I needed to put it together, but it looked really nice. The final thing I will mention is a conversation I had with my friend. So this friend is really good with technology.  So I was talking to them about how little storage I had on my computer and they were helping me clear some storage. But I remembered about a hard drive that I had in my drawer that I just didn't know how to use. So I brought it up to them and they were able to show me how it worked, so now I have 3 TB of extra storage! I can download like every single game I want and more now! And speaking of games, I showed off my video game collection to this friend and I found some real treasures. But the best thing I had was two copies of Ratatouille, one of the PS2 and one on the Wii. I had so many memories of playing the game, so it was awesome to find them in my collection. But this wraps up this overall chill week.

The first highlight of the week would be my Superbowl Watch Party. So on Superbowl Day, my mom and I sat on the couch together and had our own little watch party. We talked to each other about what was happening and at halftime, we made BBQ sausages and ate chips. And when it was Kendrick's halftime show, we were vibing and singing the whole time. It was such a fun time, but it sucked that my dad had to work for the day. The next highlight of the week would be getting brand new books. Riselle had been talking a lot about books, so it inspired me to get some of my own. I had started reading a book on Sora called "You've Reached Sam", but I found a physical copy at Barnes & Nobles so I decided to get that. Also at Barnes & Nobles, I got "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. I've heard many good things about it and I decided that I wanted to read it for myself. I haven't started reading the books yet, but once I do I know they will be amazing. The only lowlights from this week have one connection with each other. The sub. Lowlight one is the sub being back which was just awful for all the reasons I described earlier. But the other lowlight revolves the class that the sub was subbing for the week before, Science. Because next week, we have the Science SBA. I'm pretty nervous for the Science SBA because I don't know what kind of questions there will be on the test. Science is such a broad subject with so many sub categories that it would be impossible to study all of them. But I will enter the SBA with high hopes of succeeding.

The lesson of this week nobody is perfect. I get this lesson from the Superbowl and specifically the online response from it. Like I mentioned earlier, Patrick Mahomes didn't have a good game. And after the game ended, people took to social media and said that he had NO chance as being the GOAT. When I saw this, I immediately knew this was an overreaction. Patrick Mahomes has had probably the greatest start to a NFL career ever and is still not even 30 years old. He has a lot of time left and it was just one bad game. Plus, Tom Brady has also had his fair share of bad games in the past as well. So even when you are such a legendary player or very good at something, you can still have your off moments when you can feel human. And that is okay because everyone is human. So don't be hard on yourself for those mistakes, because there is a lot more positive moments you can look at.

For this week’s set of Magic Notes, it was a very difficult choice deciding who would be a winner, mainly because majority of the notes contained overlapping details that didn’t fully stand out. But there were a couple that separated themselves from the pack so let’s see who these were. The honorable mentions of this week are…. Sonora and Riselle. Sonora’s Magic Note was unique in the details mentioned and it gave me a new perspective of how I am. Riselle’s Magic Note was chaotic, like always, with some fun moments and interesting word choices. But the winner of this week was…. Cheyanne! Cheyanne’s note had an awesome blend of humor and heartfelt that made it my choice to be the winner. So Cheyanne is at second place and is right behind Riselle. With that being said, this concludes this blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
