Weekly Blog #27: Calm Before the Storm

Hello ‘Ilima

GOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING ‘ILIMA! Welcome back to school! It was a nice break, and we had a good opening week as it only had 3 days due to 2 holidays. I don’t understand why Monday couldn’t be a day off, because it would make the schedule less confusing, but whatever. This week, even though short, was pretty busy. On Wednesday, we had a dress rehearsal for the orientation. It was pretty cool to do my 2nd ever dress rehearsal. My first one was for my 6th grade performance of the Lion King which was really fun. All of this practice that has went into the orientation is getting me really anxious. Even with all of these nerves, I am really excited to do the orientation and do my best performance. Thursday also had a Family Nite which was pretty fun. It was the last and final Family Nite and it had the least amount of people come. The booth I was working at was a paper airplane making booth that had to do with the degrees and angles of the fold lines. I made my very first paper airplane that day and it was pretty cool. That was the big stuff from this week, but this week was also just pretty chill. My classes didn’t have too much work and I had fun. Overall this week was pretty nice.

A highlight from this week was the Family Nite because, like all of the Family Nites, I enjoy working the booth and helping the other people. The linner we had was also super good, steak and chicken katsu, the absolute bomb. Another highlight from this week was the rehearsal because it was nice to see the work laid out in a way that will be close to the end product. I think that the biggest lowlight from this week was the nerves. I have been nervous about the rehearsal, I have been nervous about trying something I’ve never done (making a paper airplane), and I’ve been nervous about the actual orientation. I go through all of the different things that I can mess up in my head, and it’s causing me to be very nervous about the whole event. But, I am going to be confident in my ability to overcome the adversities and ultimately prevail.

The lesson I learned from this week was to slow down. I’ve been waiting for orientation to be over with, but now that’s it’s here I feel like I need more time. I would love to have more dress rehearsals and more practice on stage, but I’ve been speeding up the process. Yes, even if I slowed down I wouldn’t get those things but I would be more prepared. So, I need to slowdown when it comes to things and let myself be patient which is a big problem with myself. I can fail to easily and be inpatient. Ultimately, this is a lesson I hope will stick with me for life. With that being said, this concludes this blog. I hope you have a good week. Cheers to another day!
