Weekly Blog #30: Straight Outta Sicktown
Hello ‘Ilima!
This week was very different from all the other weeks because of one factor. I was sick. Iron Man is down for the count. It started on Monday when my head was hurting, but I just rested and it better for Tuesday where the story really starts. My head was hurting more and eyes became wet and sore. ELA, my first period for that day, was a struggle and I felt like I was dying. I was barely standing straight during recess which caused my friends to look at me strange. Then we head to AVID. During the mediation period, I put my head down and my shoulders started heating up. Everything was so hot but it actually felt soothing in a way. When I got up, my neck and shoulders were still hot but my headache was gone. The people on my table could tell I wasn’t feeling good and they told the teacher for me. She checked my forehead and said it was warm, so I got sent to the health room. There, the nurse checked my temperature and I was at 103 degrees. This was enough to get me sent into another room to wait for my dad to pick me up. So now I’ve been resting at home for almost a week and I’ve been slowing getting better. It was a lot of sleep for the first two days. I would be sleeping anywhere for like 10+ hours. I was also drinking a lot of liquids from water, orange juice, tea, smoothies, and more. Right now, I still have a wet cough and the need to blow my nose a lot which is a bit annoying. Having basically a week off was pretty cool, but I have a lot of work I need to do.
Me in the Healthroom (terrible picture)
A highlight from this week was going to the North Shore and experiencing the outside world. This happened on Friday and it was so amazing to go into the real world have days of being locked inside. My family and I got some good food and I gotta breathe some fresh air. Another highlight was that I didn’t have to go to school for most of this week!!! The obvious lowlight from this week was getting sick because I felt miserable for those first couple of days. I also know still have this lingering cough. Another lowlight is the work that I’m going to have to do. Sigh.
The lesson that I learned from this week is that rest is good. Something I didn’t mention earlier was that during AVID, I didn’t want to go to the Healthroom because I didn’t want to end up missing class time. I didn’t want to rest to get better because I wanted to keep on working and keep on having perfect attendances. But I needed to be able to just take a break and be able to heal and get better. I’m still coughing up a storm so I best be going. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
