Weekly Blog #31: Iced Out Life
Hello ‘Ilima
Welcome back! This week has been pretty long so let’s start from the top. Tuesday had Recognition Night which definitely felt like the quickest one. Pretty bad sign for our school but at least a lot of people still had fun. I was (and am) still coughing a lot which made screaming not the best idea but I still did it. Earlier that day, I actually gotta watch a baseball game. Campbell has a baseball field right next to our field and I got to watch them play. I didn’t entirely understand the game, but I still had a whole lot of fun watching. But the best part of this week came on Friday. Friday was the 7th Grade Class Day and I was super excited. We were headed to Ice Palace and I had never been so I was pretty hyped about it. The bus ride to Ice Palace was pretty cool. The bus driver was pretty funny and she even jokingly offered to braid my hair. I closed my eyes for a bit and before I knew it, we were at Ice Palace. The place was much bigger than I expected it to be, so I got even more pumped up. I went the wrong way and ended up having to wait in a long line to get my foot size measured, but I wasn’t gonna let anything stop me from skating. Some of my friends told me about the beginners section, but I refused to go as I ain’t no beginner. The second I stepped on the ice, all of the built up ego just shattered. I was slipping around everywhere and I could barely stand. But that didn’t deter me from trying to skate. While some of my friends tried out the beginner section to learn, I stayed determined to ice skate using good old trial and error. Fall after fall, I would just get up and keep on trying. But I did fall a crazy amount. Mr. Cole, who was chaperoning, said that he saw me fall more than I actually skated. Apparently a lot of other people saw me fall a lot because people would just come up to me and try to help me get good at ice skating. I tried following all of the advice, but I would still fall so many times. My elbows and knees were hurting so bad, but I kept on going. I eventually kinda skated without falling every second which I call a success. I was super thirsty so I was gonna go to the food area, but the line was crazy long. Luckily one of my friends was already waiting in line and I handed them money for them to get me a drink. When they were at the cashier, I came up to them and thanked them for standing in the line for me. But what happened next was pretty funny. When I said I was super thirsty I meant it and I bought the biggest size drink they had, Pitcher Sized. I expected it to just be a pretty big cup so that was the one I got . The shock on my face when I saw that it was an actual pitcher full of Sprite was immense. The lady asked me how many cups I wanted (because buying a pitcher implies that you are gonna share it) and I was confused so she just handed me a stack of cups. So I ended up giving two cups of Sprite away and drank the rest of the Pitcher. It was honestly pretty funny because I didn’t expect them to just be handing out pitchers. At 12:00, we had to leave and the bus ride home was pretty chill. When we got back on campus, we stayed in try cafe for the rest of day which was pretty cool. My friends and I played card games and heads up for that time and we had a great time. After school, I also went to Burger King with my friends and that was also pretty cool. My friends were scared of ordering food which contrasted by nonchalance when it came to ordering a Chicken Fry meal. The whole day was pretty fun and I’m glad that I could have a day like that. There’s a lot more that happened that I will cover in the highlights and lowlights.
The first obvious highlight was Ice Palace and Burger King. I already went on a whole tangent about the whole experience so I don’t have to say all of that again, but that whole Friday was just so fun and I got to spend great time with my friends. The final highlight from this was learning that I was gonna be treasurer next year. I don’t know if I am supposed to say this so I am just gonna say that I am not officially treasurer next year. But when I heard the news that I could be treasurer next year, I was super happy. That was the role that I was wishing to get so I am glad that I could get it. Now onto the lowlight. The first lowlight is pretty personal to me. On Saturday, I was going to go and take my dog out for a walk when I realized she wasn’t responding. I panicked in my head and immediately went to my mom. I don’t want to go onto more details but I am deeply sad. To move onto the next lowlight, I feel like there has just been so much more work lately. My first of two college projects were due, a so social studies essay was started, and a new English project was introduced to us. I just feel like the school needs to turn down how many stuff they are giving us at one point. The final lowlight is the pain I feel from after Ice Palace. Every time I try to sit down, I just feel so much pain. I also got blisters on both of my feet which isn’t fun. I know these lowlights seem bad, but this week was still good.
The lesson I learned from this week was to not expect to be good at something you have never done. It’s honestly funny how good I thought I was gonna do at ice skating just to fail that much. I was definitely not prepared for ice skating and should have expected to just suck. This lesson can apply to other things as I should go into new experiences with reasonable expectations and not just assume that I would be good at anything I do. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I wish you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
