Weekly Blog 1-1 (36): First Week Back
Hello ‘Ilima
Welcome Back to School! This first week of school was pretty simple as it was mainly just the introduction. Tuesday was the first day for 7th graders, but the 8th grade Leadership still had to come. I arrived and worked the lanyards with Alex. The job was pretty boring but I did a pretty job. For the rest of that day until Lunch, we just waited inside. For that first day, we had to work Cafe Monitors and I got to be trash, the best job. Overall, the 7th grader’s first day was pretty chill. But then it was the actual first day. For the first half of the day, it was diagnostic testing in your homerooms. Leadership, however, didn’t do testing and we just kept on doing schedule pick up work. Then for the last half of school, we went to each of the classes for 11 minutes. I got to see the teachers and get a feel for the classrooms (except Mr. Damo’s) which was helpful for me to get settled in. The rest of the week went pretty well as it was just longer introductions. Some takes from the first couple days is that 1. My Science class is not going to get any work done. That class is so loud and there is always someone talking. 2. Social Studies is gonna be QUIET. Mr. Damo’s class is so quiet that I could probably hear my own heart beat. Mr. Damo himself isn’t bad, but no one dares to say word without being spoken too first. 3. ELA is probably gonna be one my favorite classes. The teacher, Ms. Acob, is pretty cool and the classroom is dark which is nice. I also get to choose where I sit so I don’t have to be with randoms. That’s all my main takeaways from the first couple of days but it will be interesting to see how the rest of the year turns out.
This week, like all other ones before it, has highlights and lowlights. To start with the highlights, I got to be the first person on TV. I immediately volunteered to go on TV because I wanted to be the first impression for the 7th graders. My gimmick for the first broadcast was to pretend to drink a bottle of fruit punch that I found. Another TV related highlight was the people who have told me they liked my broadcast. At first, a 7th grader noticed me while I was in the courtyard and said that they liked my broadcasts and that they couldn’t wait for more of my appearances. Then, Ms. Acob told me how everytime I was on TV, it put a smile on her face and that I was making an impact on others. Both interactions made me really proud and it made me know that my interesting acts on TV actually worked. A different highlight from this first week was getting to see my friends again. The first lunch back was so nostalgic and we had so much fun. It reminded me how good being in person was and I can’t wait for more of the lunches. The first lowlight from this week was that school started this week. I kind of wished summer was forever but of course it can’t be so I have to be back in school. The last lowlight is that we instantly had to do testing on the first week. I always get the most difficult questions of things I haven’t learned which is just so unfair. Overall, this week was more positive than negative.
The lesson I learned from this week was that I make an impact. This mainly happened from the previously mentioned interactions I had between the 7th graders and Ms. Acob. I had never really noticed the impact I made on others beforehand. I just kept on doing it without seeing the effect afterwards. But really hearing people say how I impacted them really made me think on all of the things I had did which could have impacted the people around me. It’s a nice reminder that my actions do help others. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
