Weekly Blog 4-8 (71): So Tuff

 Hello 'Ilima

As school is almost coming to a close, things are beginning to ramp up. Awards Night, Aloha Dinner, and Graduation are all around the corner, but let’s talk about this week. Contrary to most weeks, this week didn’t have any big events. But, there was a lot of school related things that happened. First of all was the Math End of Course Exam. This exam was the big test of the whole year and was a culmination of all the Algebra standards we learned this year. Everyone I knew, including me, was very nervous about this test as it had a big part in deciding if we passed Algebra 1. So before the test, everyone vigorously studied so that they could be the best prepared they could be. The first day of the EOC was on Monday and I was insanely nervous. Ms. Doles had told us there were over 40 questions and that we would need multiple days to finish the test which made me scared about what type of questions could be asked on the exam. When it was Period 3, I entered my math class and we all had to put our electronics and bags into a corner. After a little speech from Ms. Doles, we started the test. The first couple things I noticed was 1. There were 43 total questions. 2. There was a calculator in the top right corner which would be available for the whole test. I started going through the questions and I quickly learned that the questions weren't that bad. I had understood what the question was asking and I was breezing through the questions. I had finished 15 questions on the first day and I was really confident. On the second day, I walked into class with a lot of confidence and I was able to finish another 15 questions. I was on pace to finish the test on Friday and I was happy. Then, when Friday came, I was able to finish the test with a scale score of 427.22 or Level 4. To say I was happy would be an understatement as this was such a massive test that meant so much to my future in Campbell. To see such a good score and to be able to know that I passed was amazing. The next school related thing from this week was the ELA Diagnostic. To be honest, I didn't even know we were taking the ELA Diagnostic. I was very surprised when Ms. Acob told us that we would be taking the ELA Diagnostic, but I wasn't really nervous. Quick side note but this was the most laid back diagnostic I've ever taken. I was able to finish it in two days and although I dropped, I still tested out of ELA and got better scores than my friends. The last school related thing I will mention is the Science test that we had this week. After the debates that we did last week, we were told to study for a test about waves and signals. There weren't any clear places to study the information, but I just looked back at old lessons and I got a pretty good idea of what I needed to know. When we started taking the test, I realized that I should have known that this test was going to be weird. Like the Science SBA, this test used real world examples of the things we learned. This differs from how we are taught as we just learn the terms and not many real world examples. Some parts of the test were easier than others, but I turned it in and got a 13/15. So for a test that didn't have clear places to study and weird questions, I did pretty good.

The first highlight from this week would be the Magic Notes that I got. I will talk about the Magic Notes more in the last paragraph, but just know that they were really good and I feel really bad for the Magic Notes that I gave. Quick story, I forgot that this was the last week of Magic Notes so I treated them like any other week and I was bombarded by emotional notes that recapped the year. But don't worry, I am making new messages to send out to everyone eventually. The next highlight from this week would be the NBA Draft Lottery. The Lottery happened on Monday and the result of it was just absurd. The Dallas Mavericks got uber lucky and jumped all the way up to the #1 Overall Pick where they should select Cooper Flagg. They had under a 2% chance to get the #1 Overall Pick, but I guess they just got really lucky. I heard people accuse the Lottery of being rigged, but I think it is a stupid argument. I won't go overly in detail on why I believe the Lottery isn't rigged, but just know that there would need to be so many convoluted things that needed to happen for the Lottery to happen. Think Occam's Razor. The only lowlight from this week would be all of the tests we had this week. Three different tests all in one week is just crazy and is a lot of stress to put onto students. But I do know it gets worse in High School and College so I should mentally prepare myself for that.

This week of school was really good at reaffirming old lessons that I have learned. So the lesson from this week is that small details could turn into big moments. Throughout the week, small details from the past all became a part of the big moments from this week. From the lesson that hard work pays off and to always having confidence in yourself, these lessons helped me do good on the EOC and was part of why I passed. So know that even if something seems minute, it can become really big one day.

This week of Magic Notes was outstanding. This set of Magic Notes were the last Magic Notes of the year and they did not disappoint. I loved every single one of them and it was so difficult to narrow it down to where I have them now. The 9 winners from this week are… Riselle, Emma, Sienna, Cheyanne, Naomi, Cherish, Mikayla, Alex, and Olivia! All of these Magic Notes, and even the others that didn’t get picked as winners, touched my heart  in ways I didn’t know it could be touched. I was actually getting emotional reading some of these Magic Notes. But with these results, we have our top 3. In third place we have a tie between Naomi and Cheyanne. In second place we have Sienna. And in first is Riselle. Gifts should be coming out soon. With that being said, this concludes this blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
