Weekly Blog 4-9 (72): One Full Week

 Hello 'Ilima

Wow! That week took FOREVER! To start of this week, let's talk about the Leadership related events. There were two events this week, the first being Awards Night. Awards Night is like Recognition Night but it awards everyone for their athletics, service, or academics. For Awards Night, the Student Body Government would be running the event and there were two jobs that were separated between the five of us. The first job was speaking, these speakers would be announcing the names for the whole night. Riselle, Alex, and Naomi were in charge of this job. That left Olivia and I in charge of crowd control and standing by the stage. At first when I heard that I was going to just control the stage area, I was a bit disappointed that I didn't have a bigger role, but then I realized how much of a blessing it was. There were a LOT of names during Awards Night and a lot of people had super hard to pronounce names. So instead of messing up 50 times, I could control people and keep a big smile on my face which are things that I am good at. But overall, working the event was boring. I would congratulate everyone who got an award as they walked onto stage and made sure that everyone was controlled around the stairs. I did get a medal though so that is fun. The other Leadership event from this week was Aloha Dinner. Aloha Dinner is a big banquet for Leadership and serves out a passing down of the torch from the 8th graders to 7th graders. During this event, the 7th graders who will be officers are sworn in and the 8th graders say their goodbyes to the program. For the past couple of weeks, all of the 8th graders were stressing about Aloha Dinner and for one part of it. The gift giving. The 8th graders needed to create gifts for the parents, hosts, and Mr. Ing and we wanted them to be special, special enough that everyone would like them and not throw the gifts away. So for weeks straight, we worked on creating gifts for each group. For the parents, we recreated baby pictures and hand crafted picture frames for the pictures to go in. For the hosts, we created digital scrapbooks that represented their journeys. And for Mr. Ing, we put on a performance which retells the events of when a mongoose invaded Leadership. That last gift, the mongoose performance, was by far the most stressful gifts as we needed to actually perform it in front of everyone. Also, admittedly, we needed way more practice with the performance then we had. But for the whole day, I was stressing out about the performance to point that I think I got myself sick. I had a major headache and I had threw up three times the day of Aloha Dinner which was not fun. But spoiler alert, the dinner turned out amazing. We started off eating but because I wasn't feeling well, I couldn't eat a lot of food. After that, Ms. Shayna played the 8th graders' recorded interviews that were hilarious to watch. Then, the Alumni gave updates about how they were doing. But finally, it was time for the gift giving. All of the 8th graders scrambled to get the gifts ready and we started with the parent gifts. When we revealed the picture frames, all of the parents started laughing and they all clearly loved it. Then it was the host's gifts and two 8th graders walked around with QR codes so that they could get the scrapbook as it was a digital scrapbook. The hosts also liked their gifts, so it was then time for the performance. All of the 8th graders quickly changed into their costumes and we started our performance. I won't go over the full performance, but I will just give my opinion on how it went. The performance went exactly how I should have expected it to be. It was very unpolished and there were many moments of confusion, but the improv and props were able to outshine the confusion and it was an overall enjoyable performance for the audience. But to me, it went a lot better than what I expected and I was super happy. So for the rest of the dinner, I felt like a heavy rock was just lifted off of me. After the gift giving, the 7th graders got sworn into office and I felt like a proud parent watching their kid graduate. Then, 8th graders got their service starts before giving their speeches. I was very prepared for my speech as I had been going over my speech in my head for the whole day. I was the second person to speak and I felt like it went very well. So ultimately, Aloha Dinner was fun. Those were all of the Leadership events and since this paragraph is getting long, I'll go over the rest of the week in the next paragraph.

The first highlight of this week would be going to Iolani Palace. On Friday, 8-3 had a field trip to Iolani Palace which happened to also be the same day as Aloha Dinner. Touring Iolani Palace was very fun as I got to see all of the unique antiques and room designs. I had already learned a lot of the information during 7th grade, but it was a very nice refresher on what I had learned. But I think the coolest part of the field trip was the bus we rode. Instead of a normal school bus, it was a nice tour bus that had reclining seats and air condition. The next highlight from this week would be Aloha Dinner. Even if I was stressed a lot from the event, I had a lot of fun while at the dinner. The food was great, the gift giving went good, and the videos were hilarious. The final highlight from this week would be Cookie Run Kingdom. Early in the week, Riselle was nonstop talking about Cookie Run Kingdom so I decided to redownload the game. I quickly became obsessed with the game and ever sense I got the game again, I've been playing it nonstop. It is just so addicting and I have a blast playing. The only lowlight from this week would be Awards Night as it was just very boring and my whole body was in pain after the event.

The lesson from this week is to not let emotions take over your whole body. This is the lesson for this week because of what I led stress due to my body. On the day of Aloha Dinner, I let my whole body be controlled by my stress. I was so full of stress that I became sick and weak from it. So in the future, I need to be able to control my emotions better and not let myself get controlled by my emotions. With that being said, this concludes my blog. I hope you have a great week. Cheers to another day!
